Urine Drug Screening Policy for Opioid Prescriptions and Medical Marijuana Certification
Effective Date: March 1, 2025
At Still Well Pain Management our priority is providing safe, ethical, and effective care. In accordance with state and federal guidelines, all patients receiving opioid prescriptions and/or medical marijuana certification must undergo regular urine drug screening (UDS) as part of their treatment plan.
Why Urine Drug Screening is Required:
Urine drug screens are a critical safety measure to:
- Ensure appropriate use of prescribed substances
- Identify any non-prescribed or illicit drug use
- Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements
- Support responsible prescribing practices and protect patient safety
Insurance Coverage & Out-of-Pocket Policy:
Many insurance providers cover the cost of urine drug screening. However, in cases where your insurance does not reimburse, or the claim is denied or applied to your deductible:
- You will be required to pay $99 per test
- This fee covers:
- Laboratory reagents and testing materials
- Use and maintenance of testing equipment
- Staff time and professional oversight involved in collecting and analyzing samples
Urine drug screening is a non-negotiable requirement for:
- Receiving or continuing opioid medications
- Obtaining or renewing medical marijuana certification
Failure to comply with required testing or to pay the $99 fee (if insurance does not cover it) will result in the practice being unable to prescribe opioids or certify you for medical marijuana.
